Default Quick setup guide to getting onto an EQEmu server.

If you are a new or existing user that only wishes to connect and play on an EQEmu server (for free btw), here is a quick setup guide to help you to start playing on an EQEmu server (I would suggest playing on ForeverHacking or GuildWars when they are up).

NOTE: Before you start doing anything, you should make a backup of your EverQuest folder. Also, do not use the same folder for EQLive as the one you want to use for EQEmu.

1) Make sure you have an EQEmu forum nick (you can register at http://forums.eqemu.net/profile.php?mode=register ). READ THE Registration Agreement Terms CAREFULLY. This account will serve as your EQEmu Loginserver account.

2) Open your EverQuest folder and run Everquest.exe and patch to EQLive. Do a thorough file check to insure you have everything the way it should be (in fact, check it twice).

3) download and install the "EQEmu Patcher" which can be found at http://www.eqemu.net/index.php?patcher

Make sure you install the EQEmu Patcher to your EQ folder (the same folder you just patched). If you get any errors trying to use the patcher, install the mdac update which can be found at http://www.eqemu.net/patcher/mdac_typ.exe

4) In your EQ folder, run patcher.exe to download the correct files that work with EQEmu. While it is downloading, check the box on the left that says "Run EQ". This will make EQ load up in fullscreen mode when it is done patching.

5) Log in using the forum nick/password you made during the registration process and then connect to the server of your choice (I play on ForeverHacking and GuildWars most of the time).

If you do not want to play in fullscreen mode, you can download EQW 2.32 at http://www.eqwindows.com/eqw232.zip
Unzip EQW into your EQ folder and run it from there. Make sure the path for your eqgame.exe is correct when you load up EQW. You dont want to use the wrong folder.

Can you honestly say that the patcher works now?

I have posted about this with details about why it wont work for me, but so far i got 0 replies to that.

My logs show that the eqemu patcher tries to download data from patchdata.foreverhacking.net . This domain DOES NOT EXCIST!!! How can ANYONE patch from that site if it does not excist at all?

Please.. If you devs use som kind of "internal" dns or similar, and get a lookup, please, please show me a correct dns lookup of the actual host patchdata.foreverhacking.net.

YOU Shawn.. CANNOT post a "guide" how to get this to work, and knowingly totally ignore that the patcher does not work at all..

Anyone.. PLEASE respond to this!!

Actually, how do you get that it does a dns on patchdata.foreverhacking.net? It doesn't do a DNS on this. If you would like to see stats on people using the patcher, please goto:

http://www.eqemu.net/patcher/usage/

It is automatically updated every night at midnight CST (US time).

Now, please tell me where you get "patchdata.foreverhacking.net" as a dns name in the patcher.

I can honestly say that i completely un-installed EQ, re-sintalled EQ, patched to EQLive + all expansions + LoY + legends, did a thorough file check to download EVERY current file verant possibly has to offer, installed the EQEmu patcher, ran the EQEmu patcher, and then was able to connect to the ForeverHacking server without a single problem... yesterday.

We use a vhost on the webserver that doesn't resolve to the hostname we are using so people can't try to use us as their patch server on thier own program/system. It does DNS, it does work. Your system is messed up. I wasn't able to find your post by scanning the forums, where is it?

I didn't have any trouble getting this to work either.
Installed EQ plus expansions, ran everquest.exe which downloaded like 1 file, then clicked the 'Optional' button, some more stuff happened, was asked to restart everquest.exe and finally some real patching started.
30 minutes later (or 1 night for dialup modems ) I installed the EQemu patcher to the everquest directory and ran it (good thing it has a desktop shortcut...with 1000+ files who'd find the right executable anyway...off course somewhere the filename is mentioned - oh and i had the EQLive patcher check the files).
Even though the missingfiles.log was as good as blank the eqemu patcher complained about 5 missing files which caused me to locate those files on Sony's server to get get the patcher to stop complaining
(BTW where the heck does discard.log come from, its the only file left listed as missing in the eqemu patcher)

The game runs just peachy, played 15 mins on foreverhacking through router and zonealarm.
The only thing that didn't work was the tutorial which reports some crap about a missing link in some dll file.

Unfortunately the joy was shortlived...does EQ suck or what (my appologies to the fans ).
I thought Ultima Online graphics were kinda way behind the times, but EQ graphics are like the original Doom (go download that and see how ugly that is...pretty much the same as EQ :P ).
Can't even save the day at HIGH res on my 19 inch sony monitor (GF3).
The human starting city Quiznos (actually Quey something...) has the worst layout I have ever seen in any layout of anything in anygame...the thing is like a labyrinth...after 15 minutes of walking around I didn't manage to find any exits to the city that didn't drop me into the ocean, none of the NPC has anything to say (you go hail and they ignore you), you get 1 food ration and 1 milk skin (from the help I gather you are supposed to get 20 of each)...and to make things worse I got so motion sick I had to stop :P
This is officially the first ever game to make me motion sick :(
(Doom, Quake, Unreal, Unreal 2, UT, UT 2k3, MOHAA, RTCW,BF 1942....and so on...none of them even remotely make me motion sick :P - it's those damn ugly textures I tell ya :P)
I thought the PS2 version looked back, but at least the character models aren't life sized

Anyway all I wanted to really let you know is that as of this date EQemu does work with the latest patched version of EQ.
To all those who can't get it to run: it really isn't worth it.
(now I gotta play a game of solitaire to show my eyes what decent graphics look like )

http://forums.eqemu.net/viewtopic.ph...amp;highlight=

In this thread i posted that i have a firewall/proxy and the log from the proxy states this :
EQEmuPatcher v1 N 2003-03-06 14:24:52 patchdata.foreverhacking.net - 80 180 284 - http TCP GET http://patchdata.foreverhacking.net/patch.dat

So.. For all that i know, the patch.dat the patcher is trying to download is coming from the host : patchdata.foreverhacking.net . And the host patchdata.foreverhacking.net is non excistant.

If you are running a "virtual" server, it still needs to have a dns record, at least when it is set up as this.. Now.. if it was eg. www.foreverhacking.net/patchdata/patch.dat you can see how the difference is? right? The "maindomain/virtualserver" is way different from the "host.maindomain".
I can of course agree to that my system is fuxed up.. no problem Ie. my system does not work wery well with your system

At least i got a confirmation that it DO work

Dont use a proxy. We didn't write it for proxy use.

We have it do a DNS on something else, then connect to that IP with a non-active vhost name. This way people can't mess with the server unless they take the steps to try (we are also setting it up so our server authenticates it).

It is the proxy that is messing you up. We didn't write it for it, and we honestly dont use one so we dont know how it will react (which apparently it doesn't like either).

You are correct Hogie.. Does not work with a proxy! So to those using a proxy.. need to turn it off.

Recon the program does something to "fool" windows into connecting to the right place.. but when using a proxy, the request is forwarded to the proxy, and the proxy dont get fooled

So.. Needless to say.. I got it working now

Thanx!

Its not really "fooling" it into it. We are doing a dns on a hostname then connect to that IP on port 80. Then we hand make our requests. This allows us to be uber and stuff and keep the files away from people downloading a will.

I think AOL is giving out 50,000 free hours now with their new AOL titanium silver platinum delux 20.3 version.

Try that.
