Dumb it down. 1017 error

I am new to Eq emu,and the idea of playing on servers with nothing to do with sony intrigues me,but I keep on getting the 1017 error,If someone could point me in the right direction,like to a dummies guide to cure this problem,or tell me what procedures i need to go through to do so would be much appreciated.
