Default Stand alone

I'm a little new to EQemu, but let me start by saying I'm amazed at the progress so far. WAY TO GO GUYS and/or GALS. I was wanting to ask (this may have been answered before in another way). Will it ever be possible with the help of EQemu to run EQ as a stand-alone game? The world and quests and Items and Mobs just like live EQ but with the big mobs scaled down so 1 player can kill them. And run the Client and server on the same computer. Make it like a standard RPG. I know that if all zones were running at once it would kill any machine it was on. My thoughts are to have it start a zone while you are zoning in to it and kill the zone you just left. The only exception would be if a quest requires two or more zones to run at the same time. IE. Killing mob A in zone A then spawns mob B in zone B. That would require both zones to be running at the same time but other than that only 1 zone running at a time. And then maybe a few friends could connect to quest together as a group. Each running the hybrid client/server combo and they would just sync, so any player that crashes would not take the entire game down. Like a distrbuted server cluster.

Hey,

Interesting idea. I did this back in EQEmu 0.4.4, when I had a 14.4K connection due to bad phone lines. Connection to the server via the internet was undesirable due to the speed.

You can download the latest Development Code from CVS (if you know how), and compile that for use. If you downlaode the latest Database and the item additions, you can play around with it (you can't break too much if you;re careful), and change the mob's details and quantity etc. You can run the server with 3 zones to be safe, and runn your client on that same machine.

You'll need to run yourself a small login server as well, and as far as I know, MiniLogin will still work with 0.5.0-DR4.

Best of luck with it.

Cheers.

You wouldn't have to have all zones running if you wanted to make it a single player version of EQ. 2 zones would suffice, because well...1 player can only be in one zone at once, so the other is there to make it possible to zone into a new zone.

A single player type EQ would be interesting, but it would take away from the overall immersive feel of being in a game with hundreds and thousands of other players.

Lords of Everquest will be a diablo type EQ game that will be single player from what I understand, and will follow along with the same EQ storyline that the online game does. Perhaps you should check that out when it's released if you're into single player type games.

Default Lords of EQ and such....

I plan on picking up Lords, and the PS2 title umm .. Elite Champions I think is the name. But from time to time being able to relive the original world of EQ from a god-like point of view would be great. I mean one day the live servers will come down. Hopefully not for a LONG time. I'm sure there will be some Emu servers that run for many years after that. However time wil make those sparse and hard to join. I was thinking of something people could burn to CD keep with their orginal EQ CD's and show it to their Kid's Kid's Kid's. "See this is what started it all" If they can get them to stop playing EQ65 long enough to look. I was also saying to keep a small multi player ability. Enough for 1 group / raid party. All in all I'm VERY greatful that I can play on the Emu servers and I thank everyone of the DEVS, Collectors and server ops for being part of this epic undertaking. May EQ live on forever.
