Default StudentQuest Request

This is mainly for the dev's, and people heavily involved in EQEmu junk
I was not entirely sure where to put this thread. So I put it here.

I'll refer to this thread, because I have read over it, and you may want to just refer me back to it if the answer to my question/request is negative.
http://www.everquestserver.com/forum...t=green+server

StudentQuest has been hugely popular lately, with a lot of people flocking due to the closeness to being a legit server. We have, at any one time, 10 players on the server, and I have seen peaks of up to 23 players simultaneously.

The server is dedicated to EQEmu and runs 8 dynamic zones.
A proposal is being formed to obtain a secondary machine to dedicate just to zones, with a promised increase of 4-8 extra zones.

StudentQuest runs the latest Development release, keeping up with the changes and adaptations made by the Dev team.
(I've even spotted Merth stalking around trying to level, on occasion)

Given the stability and support for StudentQuest, I'd like to make SQ a green server, if at all possible.

(I've added a poll just to see what the general public thinks of this )

Cheers,
Predominant

In the past, green servers indicated development servers, so that should have meant 'Unstable, testing, don't get peed off if you come in here and nothing works' , but several dev's ignored that and started trying to make production game servers using uber greenness (which I disagreed with because its confusing, people are going to think green means big time, but hey, no big deal)..

Since we pretty much threw the green dev server concept out the window, I don't see any problem with giving you guys one, you've been a credit to eqemu from what I've seen and I've heard good things about your server (though I'd like to see more bug reports and bug fixes/implementations coming from you guys! LOL) I just stress that server owners communicate back to us when they find issues, and places we can improve the servers or do code fixes themselves, but I digress.

I think it's fine if you'd like one...

I'm all about adding another machine because I would be on more if there were more open zones. As for bugs, you should make the petition command work so players can easily send bugs we notice... inless it's bugged. Great work so far, can't wait till you have more zones populated and working.

Im not giving away anything, I dont have that power anymore (hint hint) , Im just giving you guys my seal of approval (like thats worth anything! LOL)

You too Scorp, I'd give you my vote.. Maybe Merth and LE can come to the rescue and give it to you guys...

Maybe EQEMU should come up with a good process for requesting the green server name! Other than cash contributions to our offseas accounts for the millions we make on advertising and selling your email addresses to porn sites ... Oops.. I mean our meager donation pool we use for hardware upgrades..

Around here it does. Just the "seal of approval" means a lot.

That's a good idea. If "green" is going to be interpreted as preferred, then there should be some standards set so that you know the server and the people running it will provide a preferred playing environement and contribute to the mutual benefit of all.

Well, I could tell you that there would be many more fixes and patches coming from 'us' if there was an 'us'. The server is run by me alone, at the moment. I have a small helping hand from a fellow student at Newcastle University, but he is unable to connect to the server at presetn due to the Login Server being outside the University residential campus. (hint hint... let me run a Login Server)

Patches will come as soon as we have them to a stage that they are worthy of notice.

Cheers

I think you are aware why we are not giving out login server binaries or source code .. But let me give you an idea of how secret this code is: no active member of the dev team (that I know of, myself included) has this source code. Only LethalEncounter and Krusher have the binary, and this binary will only function properly on one machine. Try to port it to a different machine, and it won't work.

I feel like this is Conan O'Brien's "SECRETS!!!"

(SECRETS)
Our loginserver only works on one computer... and nobody has the source code...
(SECRETS!)

Nah I wont be out of town until Sunday, but login source is really worthless without the crypto. Only Quagmire has the source to it, but he compiled a couple of them for us. About the green name, I think it would be best to wait until we officially release 5.0. If your server is still around by then, I dont have a problem with it. OH, and one more thing, after 5.0 is released, your going to have to register for a server account before your server will appear in the list. This will stop people from using other people's server names and although this hasnt happened that I know of, stopping someone from adding obscene server names to the list or adding a lot of bogus servers to the list. Details on this have yet to be determined, but it should help us out.

Dude you only have 8 zones up what kinda of mechine/connection are you running most newer computers can run 20-30 zones easy (although losing a little sablity when you get a LOT of people on) the limiting factor is usually the internet connection!
