One shouldn't encourage others to indulge in these habits - I'm not saying that EQ should be illegal. I was making a point that my compulsory behavior is less damaging with EQemu.

I don't post often enough here, but I would like to say an addiction is based off when you don't get something you want it becomes a need. It only becomes a need when you let it. My brother is a Pot smoker. He doesn't let it rule him tho, when he doesn't have any he doesn't change he doesn't care. On the other hand I have a friend who is an addicted pot smoker, when he doesn't have a bag for awhile he gets pissy and antsy and starts say I need weed man, he doesn't need it, it just rules him. He let it take over himself. EQ is the same way! I never need everquest, all I really use it for is a gloridfied chat channel with pretty pictures. I don't even play eqemu of a fix it "kill cazic" or anything like that. Me and my brother are writing our own world and hopefully it'll be a good one. ATM I have one NPC in it and one weapon lol. Well just my 2 cents worth :P

If you havent read that short story, look it up , really good social commentary..
That is a very good story about how striving for a utopia, can only create a dystopia, and if you like it, try reading anything by Ayn Rand, she is an awesome writer as well.

Hm... Messed up that the exclusive features will only be available to cross-gamers =/ I'll be one, but it still doesn't make it cool.

Lethal,

That story was 'Harrison Bergeron'

At the end he took off his weights and soared, and the girl took off her mask, and then the minister of equality blasted them with a shotgun...

Another good one is Flannery O'conner, 'A Good Man is Hard to Find'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this wasn't about EQ being an addiction. It is what you make it to be.

It's about SoE putting in an incentive to keep people playing both EQ and EQ2.

And please, don't get all up in arms about Sony being in it just for the money. THEY ARE! It's called a business! It's your job as a consumer to decide whether their product is for you or not. You have the final say...

Back to the EQII thing...

Screw Verant/Sony and the stupid, overpriced, horses they rode in on!

I have been so inspired by the work done here, that It would be impossible for me to care any less about them.
Why should we care, when we can create new worlds right here?

Personally, I don't require dazzling graphics,(I used to play text based MUDs for hours on end)there is plenty of use left in the original game. Besides, anything they come up with now is going to be re-hashing the original stuff. The Coorporate 'Suits' at Sony will make sure any real creativity is snuffed out.

I totally agree with image. What a bunch of crap. Now you get to pay for 2 everquest accounts to get their little carrot they hang in front of loyal customers. Ohhhh gee thanks sony, I feel soooo rewarded now that you are shafting me in both holes!!!

Default tolerance ?

First, i would say that i agree with the general opinon expressed in this forum topic...
I also consider that as a bad decision BUT i'm not going to blame verant/sony when speaking about eqemu.

It would be nice if you could be a little tollerant about that, for many reasons :

- it doesn't concern directly eqemu users. Anyone who payed for eq1 can use it, so i think it's off-topic to blame sony with something about eq2.

- verant/sony looks a little tolerant with eqemu itself... could the eqemu communauty be a little tolerant with eq II ? Compare the situation with blizzard/Vivendi and the "bnetd" battlenet server emulator, you will see how lucky we are (http://www.bnetd.org/)

- what would be EQemu without EQ ? this is exactly the same question : What would be eqemu without sony/verant ?

- as eqemu is eq1 emulation only, i think a psychological subconscient thing is pushing eqemu users to be a little more nasty with eq2.

you people are looking at it from the consumer point of view...You need to look at it from the company point of view. Sony is doing what is good for they're company, it isn't even something y'all should get pissed off at. They are making business decisions to keep a business running, THIS GAME THEY MAKE COSTS THEM MONEY! I think they went about it the wrong way though, I mean, if I get special items and shit, they better be ubah as fuck. I want some shit like Soul Devourer. :P

[mad]
Probably going to be banned for this, but I really am sick and tired of people saying they hate EQ and aren't going to buy their products, and whatnot.

You guys make such a big deal over it, hell.. your making an emulator for it. Some of the biggest guilds whine about the game.

Get over it and just leave, everywhere i'm going theres someone whining.

And everyone that is agreeing to this, why the hell are you even here? Half of you weren't good enough to play the game so why whine about something you can't even do.

It's like whining about a broken leg and you've never broke a bone before.

Just because theres a big pile of people who hate the game doesn't mean they don't have loyal fans. I have much respect for them creating EQ, I don't see any of you making an mmorpg.

Stop whining, grab a tissue, and create your own game.
[/mad]

K, cya later if I get banned.

I dont see anything wrong with that post personally... Arguing or disagreeing is acceptable, we all have our opinions.. Calling everyone a f'ing moron because they disagree with you isnt...

My personal opinion is I enjoyed EQ, but got horribly bored by the repetiveness of it..

They make decisions based on what they think is good for profit margins.. Money is what keeps system admins employed, coders coding, and GM's doing whatever they do....

Capitalism makes the world go round..
