I'm assuming you are trying to connect to Merth's 5.0 DR3 Florida Server, as that is the only 5.0 server that I see up atm. I have never played on that server before, but I just created a half-elf ranger there and could logon fine. I patched that directory yesterday, so maybe it is worth trying to patch to EQlive and try again.

Other than that i don't know, sorry. Maybe Merth, or someone else who has played a bit on that server may have some suggestions for you
