Well then you let it catch up to the rural areas. There are two interesting rural broadband choices under development.
1) A Wifi network base at all public schools with a range of 10 miles. Idea is that if you are not within 10 miles of a public school you don't even know what the internet is. It had lots of government interest and funding but now it seems to be losing steam to alternative #2.....
2) Broadband via powerlines. No range. No expensive equipment on the client side. And works at speeds better than DSL/Cable. If you have an outlet and you know your electric company supports it, you have broadband access. This is not as far off as it sounds, with a live test passed with flying colors in the northwest and FCC approval only a couple of days ago. The catch? The electric company has to change out your transformer (possibly all transformers in region, not sure) for it to work, so its not like they can just flip a switch and *poof* X-boxLive.
