Firewall Ports
Exscuse me if this is already posted, but i searched and searched and couldnt find it. I would really like to know which Firewall Ports need to be open to play on EQ. Specifically the Winter Roar server.
Thanks

No i dont think so. Its winroute. I go through my home network. It may be my router but i dunno. Dont tell me just to look at the bottom of the screen or anything. Its run on an entirely different comp that i dont have access to.

Firewall
Firewall does not stop client traffic. Firewall will only mess you up if running a server. Never had problems with any firewalls over 6 years of playing EQ, both Live and EMU. With multiple machines on the inside.
Only when running a server will you need to open ports up, and even then, it's only one port range.
Something else is wrong with your configuration or something, it's NOT the firewall.

Firewall
If you have any questions about your config then simply put the machine outside the internal IP's. Use your routable IP and see how it works.

Firewalls can and will stop client traffic if they are configured to do so. How do you think companies stop their employees from doing certain functions on the net, they close the outgoing ports on the firewall.
I'm not saying the firewall is or isn't the problem here but just wanted to make sure the original poster didn't stop looking into it because it is a "non-issue".
There is a post out on the eq-live site (I think in the FAQ) regarding which ports need to be open... Hmmm.. Let me find it real quick.. From eqlive knowledgebase after searching firewall:

Here is the solution: EverQuest: How to configure a firewall to run with Everquest.
We do not support the use of firewalls or proxies, including home cablemodem/dsl NAT routers and other Internet Connection Sharing devices or software. However, the following information might be helpful if you need to troubleshoot a connection that utilizes one of those technologies:
Patch Application A TCP connection is initiated from the player's PC (using an arbitrary port>1023) to patch.everquest.com, port 7000. There are multiple IP addresses for the patch.everquest.com clusters, and they may change as the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you provide a specific firewall rule for patching.
EverQuest client: UDP datagrams are sent to/from the player's PC (using an arbitrary port>1023) from/to one of the EverQuest servers (using an arbitrary port>1023). Additionally, ICMP Unreachables (ICMP type 3) are sent to/from the player's PC from/to the EverQuest servers. The EverQuest server IP addresses are on the subnets: 64.37.148.* , 64.37.149.* , 64.37.150.* , 64.37.151.* , 64.37.156.* , 64.37.157.* , 195.33.132.*, 195.33.108.*, 195.33.133.*, 199.108.1.*, 199.108.2*, 199.108.3.* Please note that EverQuest opens a random UDP data port from the player's PC every time EverQuest is run. Thus, the need to have all ports > 1023 available.

Hope that helps...

That's true, but for most home users with Linksys routers and such, they we will able to play on multiple machines internally without any problems and no configuration changes.
If we knew what firewall was being used we could help. He could also just forward all traffic to the one internal machine he wants to play on, there are many solutions.
But I still get the feeling he is using a typical D-Link, netgear cable/dsl NAT style router and thinks it is the cause, but it is not.

Try DMZ host on that IP, I bet you get the same error. Showing that you actually get to the login and such shows something else is prolly going on.
